3/28/2026

The annual General Meeting of the National Barcode Organization of Turkmenistan “GS1 Turkmenistan”, dedicated to the results of 2025 and future strategic plans, was held on March 27 in the conference hall of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

Aykamar Malikgulyyeva, Chairwoman of the organization, presented a report on the work completed over the past year. The report highlighted key achievements and defined objectives for the upcoming period.

It was noted that as of March 2026, the membership of the National Barcode Organization of Turkmenistan reached 2,663. The majority of Turkmen manufacturers of goods and services are now covered by advanced identification technologies based on barcoding.

To date, 91,915 barcodes have been issued, of which 22,922 are included in the international Global Registry database and 10,041 in the national register. Consistent efforts are being made to create a "Digital Product Passport." The "Made in Turkmenistan" website, developed by GS1 Turkmenistan, continues to improve the information database of local producers. Additionally, the Verification Laboratory is being equipped with new technology this year.

Today, Turkmenistan produces more than 90,000 types of goods with access to global markets. In this regard, the meeting noted the achievements of the Technical Committee TC TM 08, a member of the Interstate Technical Committee for Standardization ITC 517. During the reporting period, the committee held 20 meetings and adopted 32 standards.

Aykamar Malikgulyyeva paid special attention to the harmonization of national standards with international ones, emphasizing the need for further active implementation of international and interstate standards into practice.

Members of the organization—representing both state and private sectors from Ashgabat, Arkadag, and the country's regions—expressed a positive assessment of GS1 Turkmenistan's work. They emphasized the organization's significance in promoting Turkmen products to foreign markets and implementing digital technologies across various sectors.

The meeting also included a report from the Control and Audit Commission.

The agenda featured the presentation of the GS1 Turkmenistan Work Program for 2026–2030, developed in the context of the global GS1 "Vision 2030" strategy and the Concept for the Development of the Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2026–2028. The program outlines three specific goals: the transition to 2D barcodes under the global GS1 Sunrise 2027 mandate, the modernization of the digital ecosystem, and the implementation of GS1 standards in e-commerce and marketplaces. Importance was placed on the transition to new digital marking this year, specifically guiding Turkmen producers toward 2D barcode integration.

Delegates unanimously approved the reports and adopted the GS1 Turkmenistan Work Program for 2026–2030.

In accordance with the agenda of the reporting and election meeting, elections were held for the new Management Board of GS1 Turkmenistan, its Chairwoman, and the head of the Control and Audit Commission.

The participants also reviewed several other organizational matters.
