On March 27th, the National Barcode Organization of Turkmenistan (NBOT), a member of the international GS1 structure, celebrated its eleventh anniversary by traditionally holding a general meeting of its members.
Representatives from ministries and sectoral departments, organizations, and enterprises from both the public and private sectors in Ashgabat, Arkadag, and the country's provinces gathered in the conference hall of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Business Center.
Aykamar Malikgulyyewa, Chairperson of the NOTB, delivered a report on the organization's work over the past year. The report highlighted the organization's achievements and outlined its objectives for the upcoming period.
It was noted that by March 2025, the National Organization of Turkmenistan for Barcodes had 2,586 members (21% from the public sector and 79% from the private sector).
To date, 83,308 barcodes have been issued, with 17,338 of them included in the Global Registry international database. The NOTB has fully integrated Turkmen producers into the automatic identification system. Currently, Turkmenistan produces over 83,000 types of goods that have access to global markets. In this context, achievements in the work of the Technical Committee TC TM 08, a member of the Interstate Technical Committee for Standardization ITC 517, and the Verification Laboratory, which is scheduled to be equipped with new equipment in 2026, were highlighted.
Aykamar Malikgulyyewa paid particular attention to the upcoming anniversary in May – the 10th anniversary of the NBOT's membership in the international organization GS1, emphasizing the effectiveness of the work being carried out to harmonize national standards with international documents and the active implementation of international and interstate standards into practice.
Among the tasks outlined in the plan for the coming year, the importance of creating a "Digital Product Passport" was emphasized, along with the role of the NBOT-developed "Made in Turkmenistan" website, which aims to become a leading global portal specializing in bridging the gap between global buyers and Turkmen suppliers. It was stressed that in accordance with the "Concept for the Development of the Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2019-2025," the widespread adoption of new digital economy standards is envisaged.
The work of the NOTB was positively assessed in the speeches of its members. The significance of the organization's activities in further promoting the products of Turkmen producers to foreign markets and introducing digital technologies into various sectors was emphasized.
During the meeting, a report on the activities of the audit commission was also presented.
The delegates unanimously approved the presented reports and considered other organizational matters.
